The Jefferson Police Department has requested an arrest warrant for a Jefferson man who allegedly passed bad checks.

According to the police department, an arrest warrant has been requested for 32-year-old Juan Angel Guzman, who is charged with a Class D Felony for second-degree theft. Police Chief Mark Clouse says an investigation started on November 25th when Hy-Vee in Jefferson reported several checks had been processed and returned for insufficient funds. Video surveillance was obtained from the business and showed Guzman using the checks to purchase prepaid cards. A total of $1,330 was spent.
