The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors adopted a new all-terrain and utility vehicle ordinance Tuesday.

After several rounds of discussion with Sheriff Marty Arganbright, County Attorney Brenna Bird, and other citizen proponents, the Board approved the second reading, waived the third, and adopted the ordinance that allows ATV and UTV use on county roads. The ordinance states all vehicles must be registered, and operators must be at least 16 years old and have a driver’s license. Also those under 18 years of age are required to pass an Iowa Department of Natural Resources approved ATV education course. This ordinance does not regulate use within cities, or on state highways, where use is illegal. Arganbright thanked the Board for getting the ordinance adopted. The Board also approved an annual funding request of $35,127 to Midwest Partnership Economic Development Corporation, the plan for a patching project on County Road P28 between Panora and Stuart estimated at $134,000, and tabled cancelling the County’s contract with Panora Communications Cooperative.
