Update:  The bottled water advisory issued for the City of Adair has been cancelled.  Tap water is now safe for consumption.

A bottled water advisory has been issued for the City of Adair.

The City issued the advisory Wednesday for the entire community, including the two rest areas along Interstate 80 and all businesses and restaurants within the City. This advisory is due to a power outage at the well field, a main break that occurred at the same time that has yet to be found, complete drainage of the tower, and confirmed manganese levels of .227 milligrams per liter.

The Adair Public Works Department is planning to isolate segments of the distribution system to send water directly into the tower to get it refilled. In doing so, portions of the community will completely lose water pressure for a second time. The department is also attempting to locate and repair the main break, and then repressurize the system. Once that all is completed, two sets of four bacteria samples will be collected throughout the community for testing. Residents are advised to use bottled water for consumption until further notice. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
