The District Large Group Speech Contest is happening this weekend throughout Iowa, and one local team is inviting the public to a preview of their events.
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Speech Team will be sending 17 entries to Woodward-Granger High School Saturday morning. To help them get the bugs and butterflies out ahead of time, Speech Coach Jacque Seidl says they’ll be hosting a special affair Thursday evening. “We’re having what’s called a ‘Community Night,’ where we want kids to just get a good feel of what it’s like to go to contest. You know, we can practice, and practice, and practice, but until they get an audience in front of them and they can really feel what that feels like, they can’t really be ready for Saturday.”
The event will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. in the ADM High School auditorium. Each of the 17 entries will be performed, and audience members can come and go as they want. There is no cost to attend, and Seidl encourages anyone who can’t make it to the actual competition Saturday in Woodward to give Community Night a try.
