The Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce reached a funding goal recently, and the Kinnick to Raccoon trail improvement project is now completely paid for.

The last bit of money needed was awarded through an Iowa Great Places grant, which also helped fund a similar project in Redfield. The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs (IDCA) allocated $39,000 to the Adel Chamber, which was specifically for the “In the Shadow of the Rails” art projects in both Adel and Redfield, and the remaining lighting on the Raccoon River Valley Trail bridge over the river. In addition to those pieces, the improvement project also included landscaping from the trailhead at Nile Kinnick Drive to the bridge, and lighting the bridge approach. The total project cost is $125,000.

With all the funds in hand, Chamber Director Deb Bengtson says they expect to have all the lighting completed by the end of March at the latest, and the artwork will be in place as soon as the weather allows for its installation. Bengtson thanks everyone who donated money to the project, including the IDCA for the Great Places grant.
