The first Perry Fine Arts event of the new year is today, and the featured artists for this occasion focus more on movement than music.
The Iowa State University dance group Orchesis I will hold a performance at the Perry High School Performing Arts Center at 2 p.m. Their show is called “Dancing Through Barriers,” and is a modern dance production honoring the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote. The company’s yearly repertoire celebrates heroines of past and present through choreography, a tradition dating back to 1946. Fine Arts Committee member Cathy Clark says the group is a returning act that should impress Perry audiences. “They were here, oh, five or six years ago, they enjoyed themselves and we enjoyed them, so we’re having them back. So they audition for being in the dance group, and then they have classes and they study dance. And so I’m sure it will be very well done and I’m excited to look forward to having them come!”
The performance is free to attend and open to the public. Free-will donations are accepted, and go towards funding future Fine Arts programs. Clark reminds the community that the PAC is handicapped accessible.
