Whiteout conditions in rural areas are expected today as Greene County is under a blizzard warning until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service states light snow and very strong northwest winds gusting up to 40-50 miles per hour are expected to create blizzard conditions. Dallas and Guthrie counties are under a winter storm warning until 6 p.m. today as wind gusts of 30-45 miles per hour are expected through the afternoon. Gusty winds may damage tree limbs and power lines causing power outages.

Motorists should also expect ice and snow covered roads and significantly reduced visibility. Most of the state highways in Dallas and Guthrie counties are currently partially covered while most of the roads in Greene County are completely covered. A tow ban is still in effect for Dallas County. Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says the snow ordinance is no longer in effect, and the Greene County Secondary Roads Department will be out treating paved and gravel routes today. The one to count on for severe winter weather coverage is Raccoon Valley Radio.
