A brand new event for the Perry Chamber of Commerce is coming up this March, but they’re spreading the word now to drum up interest in the community.
Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says the Big Boom Bracket Battle is something she and many others are excited to try this year, and it involves the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Championship Tournament. Pasutti says nearly everyone in the nation fills out a tournament bracket each year, so the idea for the Chamber’s involvement is to turn it into a citywide fundraiser. “As you can imagine, there is some friendly competition that can surround that (tournament). And so we’re going to take that opportunity for some local community competition, and encourage people to fill out brackets for that event. And turn it into the Chamber for just $10, and all of the proceeds will go to our fireworks drive for Fourth of July. So that should be a fun thing, and so we’re wanting to get the word out about that to get people excited and looking forward to it.”
Pasutti adds, people can turn in as many entries as they want, but it’s $10 for each. There will be prizes awarded to those who most accurately predict how the tournament unfolds, donated by area businesses. The competition will open after the tournament participants and seeding are announced on Sunday, March 15th, and the deadline to turn your brackets in with your entry fee is Thursday, March 19th by noon. Pasutti says brackets will be available at several locations, including the Chamber office, City Hall, the Perry Public Library, McCreary Community Building, and others, but people can also print off their own and turn them in.
