A Bagley farmer will likely never forget his recent birthday thanks to the Iowa Lottery.
Fifty-five year-old Jeff Bauer bought a ticket for a Powerball drawing at Hometown Foods in Panora. He ended up matching four of five white balls and the Powerball in the January 8th drawing to win $50,000. Bauer was one number away from winning a share of that night’s $258.2 million jackpot. Bauer told lottery officials that he felt he’d be lucky on his birthday so he bought a couple tickets the day before the drawing. He later didn’t realize he had won until he checked his tickets a few days after the drawing. Bauer says he plans to use part of his winnings to pay for a recent surgery.
