The Washington Township School in rural Dallas County will be hosting their annual pancake breakfast this weekend, with an educational program to support local historic preservation.
The meal will be held Saturday, January 18th from 7-10 a.m. at the school, located south of Perry and west of Minburn. Offerings include pancakes, eggs, sausages, and drinks, all available for a free-will offering. All proceeds will be used for the continued restoration and maintenance of the historic school house.
In addition to the meal, organizers will also present a book talk with local author Joy Neal Kidney at the event. Kidney is the niece of the Wilson Brothers of Perry, who’s likenesses can be seen on the Dallas County Freedom Rock in Minburn. Her book is called “Leora’s Letters: the Story of Love and Loss for an Iowa Family During World War II.” Copies will be available for sale at the breakfast, and Kidney will sign them at no cost.
