With temperatures this week expected to be in the lower 20s and teens during the day and single digits at night, it’s a good time to be reminded of how to dress in below freezing temperatures.
Dr. Laurie Connolly is a family practice physician at the Greene County Family Practice Clinic and she says to be aware and make sure you are dressed appropriately, and in layers of clothing, if you are going to be outdoors in extremely cold weather.
“Mittens are better than gloves as far as your fingers are together. Make sure you have dry, warm socks on (and) ideally you’d have on boots or coverings that are resistant to wet to keep yourself dry.”
Dr. Connolly says fingers, toes, nose, cheeks and ears are the most susceptible to the cold. She suggests for parents to supervise their children if they are in extremely cold temperatures because children may not pay attention to how cold it is outside when playing.
