One Statehouse Republican lawmaker is seeking re-election this year.
District 47 Representative Phil Thompson of Jefferson tells Raccoon Valley Radio he is running for re-election to the House. Thompson is finishing his first two-year term in the House. He explains his decision to run again.
“It was mostly a very recent decision just seeing with the new leadership that we rolled into the House, and I see a good way forward to graduate here. So I do plan to run for re-election and hopefully serve for another two years.”
Thompson believes he has been a good voice for his rural district and describes what other things got in line for him to succeed in his first term.
“Just knowing the personalities is a big part of how you speak for your community, knowing how to navigate that, but definitely knowing who your friends are. Being able to do the work and backup the issues that are important to you with real data and that ultimately drive results.”
Thompson serves on the labor, local and state government committees, along with veterans affairs committee, and as vice-chair for the budget sub-committee for Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund (RIIF).
