The Canisteo Room at Hotel Pattee was at capacity Wednesday evening, as New Jersey Senator Cory Booker brought his campaign for President of the United States to Perry.
This was Booker’s first trip to northern Dallas County, though he’s been elsewhere in the County twice already, including just a week and a half ago in Adel. During his speech, the Democratic Senator spent most of the time discussing his intentions, as opposed to specific policy questions. He emphasized that his campaign focuses on love, empathy, and unity. He then answered questions from the standing room only audience, and took selfies with any who wanted one.
Booker also took a moment to talk with Raccoon Valley Radio about the core focus of his candidacy. “This is not an election that’s left or right, it’s an election that’s right or wrong. It’s about time that we start talking about our values, not as just the Democratic party, but as a nation. Because I believe that America, this is a moment we’ve got to reclaim the best of who our country is. And even people that vote differently than us, they’re not our enemies. We need to find a way to build bridges.”
Booker is one of 14 individuals who are in the running for the Democratic nomination for President in the June primary election. Like the others, he’s hoping to come out on top in the February 3rd Iowa Caucuses, and is travelling across the state to garner support.
