Enrollment is open for farmers to sign up for a commodity title program, and Guthrie County area producers can learn about these decisions and more at an upcoming event in Panora.
ISU Extension and Outreach and the USDA Farm Service Agency is hosting a 2020 Farm Bill Decisions meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 23rd at the Panora Community Center. The meeting will cover rules and regulations for the Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs, and Farm Management Specialist Tim Christensen will be one of the speakers, “We’re giving them some tools and some knowledge to be able to make an educated decision when they go in and sign up. It’s a two-year election so they’ll be signing up for ‘19 and ‘20, so the meeting is to help them make that decision but we also want to educate people and give them the knowledge to be able to able to make that decision the next three years. It’s going to be an annual election so in 2021, 2022, and 2023 they’ll be able to sign up between ARC and PLC each year. So we’re hoping to give them the knowledge to make all those decisions and the tools they need to make good decisions.”
Christensen adds there will be Extension Human Sciences Specialists on hand to discuss farm stress management and offer other resources. This event is free to attend, and no registration is required. The deadline to sign up for a commodity title program with the FSA is March 15th.
