A Greene County resident will be recognized for his sports coverage with a statewide award.

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Doug Rieder will be recognized for his 40 years of Greene County sports coverage with the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association Media Award. IHSAD Past-President and Greene County High School Activities Director Todd Gordon says the award is given to several individuals in media across the state and the recipients are nominated by a school district’s AD.

Gordon says he couldn’t be happier to have nominated Rieder.

“Well deserved (and) well documented, just a walking and talking encyclopedia of Greene County athletics. It’s been a thrill for me these first six months to really get to know Doug. He’s kind of helped me develop a love of this place, through telling me about it’s history. I love the history of places and Doug has just been phenomenal and incredible telling me about those things.”

Rieder will receive the award at halftime of the home varsity boys basketball game against Saydel at the Greene County Middle School gym in Jefferson on January 10th.
