The Greene County Medical Center is in search of new leadership, following the resignation of Chief Executive Officer Carl Behne.

Behne has served as CEO of the hospital for the last eight years, and announced he was stepping down earlier this week. He accepted the position of Chief Strategy Officer for Exemplar Care, PLC in West Des Moines. The hospital board of trustees thanked Behne for his service, emphasizing he played a critical role in the development and success of Greene County Medical Center. Board Chairperson Jim Schleisman said in a statement, that Behne will be missed, but that the hospital will remain in a good position even in his absence.

The Board and UnityPoint Health – Des Moines will now conduct a search for a new CEO, which they anticipate could take several months. During the interim, the leadership team of the hospital will supervise all activity. The team includes Chief Nurse Executive Katie Heldt, Chief Operating Officer Christa Simons, and Chief Administrative and Financial Officer Heather Paris.
