The year 2019 was another busy one in Dallas County, with a multitude of projects and changes to keep up with the rapid growth.
Dallas remains the fastest growing county in Iowa, and also ranks among the top ten nationwide. Dallas County Supervisor Mark Hanson says that growth can be a blessing and curse at times. However, he believes the County has handled it well overall, thanks to both elected officials and hired staff. “We’ve tried to maintain a prudent fiscal tax policy, but yet to have the resources required for improving and running a growing county that continues to change year after year. I’m always surprised at the amount of growth that continues in our county, but that’s a good thing in a large way because we’re not a county that’s losing population and worrying about trying to maintain services for a smaller population. So all in all a very good year from a budget standpoint, and we look forward to the next year.”
Hanson adds, he’s been pleased that the County has been able to stay in front of issues such as new buildings and space, including the new law enforcement center and courthouse renovation. He also points out there are several more projects scheduled for 2020 to address the issues even further.
