The City of Jefferson has had one of the biggest years in its history.

Jefferson Mayor Craig Berry says one of the most important priorities that was tackled this year was housing. He points out, 18 units are currently being developed and worked on. When asked if he thought there would be that many housing units built in the City, Berry shares his thoughts.

“I didn’t think there would be that many. I knew we would have a few, but this is outstanding. I thought maybe we would have five to eight, but what we have now is great.”

Berry describes another important project for 2019 was getting a global technology company like Accenture to locate their first rural office building at The Forge.

“It shows that the tech companies want to invest, not just in Jefferson or rural Iowa, but in rural America. I think we’ve set a precedent throughout the whole nation and the world of what’s coming.”

Berry notes other accomplishments this year include securing funding from the Federal Aviation Administration to extend the runaway at the City’s airport and passing a bond that includes four walking trails to the new high school, Greenewood Center, East Lincoln Way Corridor and Daubendiek Park.
