Mini bell tower

Jefferson Matters: Main Street is looking to continue a public art project in 2020.

The mini bell tower project is an opportunity for local businesses to sponsor local artists to create a one-of-a-kind design on one of four mini bell towers located on the downtown square. The tower structure is modeled from the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower. Jefferson Matters: Main Street Program Director Peg Raney says any organization, business or individual can be a sponsor of the 2020 mini towers. Each sponsor will pay $300 to the artist and work with them on the design. Raney adds, they have a list of artists, but the sponsor can use whoever they want.

Raney talks about how the 2019 towers made an impression on a group of individuals who visited Jefferson earlier this year.

“When we had the workshop here, the Main Street Iowa workshop, I think so many communities just thought, ‘What a creative way to utilize such a unique asset we have in the community in a new way.’”

Raney adds, the new towers will be installed in mid-May and the sponsors of the 2019 towers can use them however they want. Contact JMMS for more information or to become a sponsor.
