As we head into the cold of winter, it can be difficult for some people to find alternatives to exercising outdoors.

With that in mind, Clint Lutterman, Rehabilitation Director for 21st Century Rehab at Dallas County Hospital, says there are simple workout solutions that don’t require time at the gym. “So I want to do some things in my house, I don’t like going to the gym. Doing some body weight things: just going up and down the stairs, pushups, situps, (or) crunches. You can get actually a pretty good workout within your home without having to go somewhere. Doing some walking inside your home, if you’re going to the grocery store park farther away, or when you go to get groceries, spend some extra time just walking. Just being mindful and really trying to be focused on actually still doing something through the winter.”

More than anything, Lutterman says it’s important for people to stay motivated to exercise. That can be having a workout buddy who you’re accountable to, or writing reminders on your calendar.
