December has seen some unseasonably warmer temperatures compared to recent memory.

According to the National Weather Service, as of December 27th, Perry and Guthrie Center each had 15 days above daytime averages of 41 degrees, and Jefferson has had 13 days above average daytime highs of 39 degrees. We’ve previously reported Weatherology Meteorologist Megan Mulford talking about the upper level ridge that has caused a drier than expected December, which is the same thing that has caused warmer daytime temperatures. However, she says a cold front has been brought back into the forecast.

“That ridge is continuing to push off towards the east, and we’ve been talking about this low pressure system coming in across the central and upper parts of the Midwest. Your area is not too bad, (but) we kind of see the atmosphere and the cold air kind of move back to where it’s supposed to be for this time of year.”

The National Weather Service is estimating daytime temperatures to remain around the normal monthly averages for the rest of this week.
