With the New Year’s holiday happening this week, there may be parties where alcohol is served. With that in mind, law enforcement officials remind everyone to not “Drink and Drive.”

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams advises, if you are consuming alcohol at a party or another event, have a designated driver determined.

“Just keep in mind that in the first hour of the one drink and every hour after that, in three hours, you are over the legal limit, for most people of your average body weight which would be right around 200 pounds. So it doesn’t take much to be over the legal limit (of 0.08 blood alcohol level).”

Williams also reminds motorists to wear seat belts when operating a vehicle. He advises anyone who thinks a motorist is impaired to call the law enforcement center in Jefferson. Information provided can be anonymous.
