As we head into 2020, one of the bigger storylines of the year will be the Presidential election.

The first step along the way to the November general election, though, is the Iowa Caucuses on February 3rd. Democrats and Republicans throughout Iowa will choose the candidates they support for the June primary election, and the Caucuses have historically gone a long way towards selecting the parties’ nominees. In Dallas County, there are several Caucus locations for both parties, each based on the residents’ precinct. For Republicans, the locations for the listening area include: Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School for Adams, Adel 1 and 2, Beaver – Des Moines, Colfax – Adel, DeSoto, and Lincoln – Washington – Linn; the Perry Public Library for Perry 1, 2, and 3 and Spring Valley – Dallas; Dallas Center Memorial Hall for Sugar Grove – Dallas Center; and the Dexter Round House for Union.

For the Democrats, there are several different locales, including: Grace Lutheran Church in Adel for Adams and Adel 2; the ADM Middle School commons for Adel 1; Woodward-Granger High School for Beaver – Des Moines; the ADM High School commons for Colfax – Adel; DeSoto Intermediate School for DeSoto; West Central Valley Middle School for Lincoln – Washington – Linn and Union; Perry Middle School for Perry 1 and 3; Perry Elementary for Perry 2 and Spring Valley – Dallas; and Dallas Center-Grimes Middle School for Sugar Grove – Dallas Center.

There are three candidates vying for the Republican nomination, including incumbent President Donald Trump, former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld, and former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh. Meanwhile, there are 15 individuals currently in the running for the Democratic bid, including Colorado Senator Michael Bennet, former Vice President Joe Biden, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttegieg, former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, former Maryland Congressman John Delaney, Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, California hedge fund executive Tom Steyer, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, self help author Marianne Williamson, and California entrepreneur Andrew Yang.

Anyone with questions about the Caucus process can reach out to their respective Dallas County party chairperson. For Democrats, that is Bryce Smith, who can be reached by calling 515-993-3350. The Republican Chair is Ron Forsell, who can be contacted by email at info@dallascountygop.org.
