A driver was cited and one passenger was injured after a single-vehicle wreck occurred in Guthrie County early Sunday morning.

According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, at about 1:38 a.m. 21-year-old August Kristopher Halverson of Jefferson was driving a Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Chestnut Road near Birch Avenue. Halverson told law enforcement that he was using his cell phone when he drove off the roadway and struck a tree in the west ditch. A passenger was transported to the Carroll County Hospital for suspected minor injuries. Halverson’s vehicle was totaled. He was cited with failure to maintain control, and use of an electronic communication device while driving.
