With longer nights and unpleasant winter weather, it can be more difficult to regularly exercise, and more easy to fall under the winter blues.
Guthrie County Hospital Dietitian Carol Laughery gives some tips on how to stay healthy this season, “There’s dietary choices but there’s also lifestyle choices. First of all, making sure you get adequate sleep and adequate physical activity, both of those can combat the winter blues. If you have a chance to get outside and get a little sun on your face or maybe expose your arms a little to get that Vitamin D, that can certainly be helpful too.”
Laughery says one simple way to maintain a healthy diet is to cut out processed foods and those high in sugar. Another way to prevent depressive symptoms Laughery advises is to decrease alcohol consumption.
