The Stuart Fire Department responded to several incidents this weekend.
Stuart Fire Chief Mike Renslow said crews responded to a call of a baler fire at 3031 Walnut Trail at 6:20pm Friday evening. Immediately following that incident, was a call for a diesel spill near McDonald’s, south of town by Interstate 80.
Renslow said the incident occurred near the off ramp in the 800 block of South Division Street, when the semi-tractor drive shaft fell off and severed the lines to the diesel tanker, causing the leak. Crews were able to use their spill kit and the Stuart Street Department used sand. Renslow added, the Department of Natural Resources was notified and Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
Then on Saturday at 7:54am, fire crews responded to an attic fire of a home at 408 Northeast 3rd Street in Stuart. Renslow said when crews arrived on scene, they saw flames and smoke coming from the attic. He pointed out that firefighters had to rip down part of the ceiling to access the attic and allowed it to vent through the roof. Renslow said the fire was contained to the attic and the cause remains under investigation. He added, there were two people and two dogs that were able to get out of the rental property safely. The Dexter Fire Department assisted at the scene. Renslow said in each incident, there were no injuries.
Renslow noted that the fire department also assisted at three other traffic related incidents on the interstate. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
