With the start of a new year, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has some reminders for some motor vehicles.
Anyone who has a vehicle registration for snowmobiles or off-highway vehicles that were purchased in 2019 will expire at the end of the year. All permits for these kinds of vehicles will also expire on December 31st. Snowmobile and off-highway vehicle owners and users must have a valid registration and permit in order to use them on public land and ice for the new year.
Those who do not renew their registrations before January 1st will be assessed a $5 penalty to the registration cost. However, there is no penalty for a permit that is purchased after January 1st, as those are issued on a calendar year basis. Contact the DNR or your county recorder’s office for more information.
