A group of Greene County Middle School students recently made a donation to a non-profit organization to help with disposal of medications.

Some middle school students recently completed a project on the harmful effects prescription medications can have on a water supply if disposed down the drain. The students conducted an awareness campaign to prevent that from happening. As part of their project, the students visited with Greene County Medical Center’s Pharmacy Director Megan Hawkins, and learned about the MedSafe program.

MedSafe is a secure receptacle for anyone to drop off expired, unused or unwanted medications. Items that are not accepted include aerosol cans, needles, or non-prescription ointments, lotions or liquids. The students then made a $47 donation to help off-set the expense of having those items picked up from the medical center. The receptacle is located in the main lobby of the medical center.
