A Panorama High School student has been named a finalist for the 58th annual United States Senate Youth Program.
Payton Douglass and three other students from across Iowa recently interviewed in person and took a civics exam in Des Moines, as part of the application process for the program held March 7-14 in Washington, D.C. Two delegates will be selected by a committee with the Iowa Department of Education for an all-expense-paid intensive education and leadership program, and will each receive a $10,000 scholarship to encourage continued coursework in government, history, and public affairs. Selection is based on outstanding ability and demonstrated leadership qualities, a strong commitment to volunteer work, and a top 1 percent academic ranking among the state’s high school juniors and seniors.
