The Jefferson Police Department has filed charges against a Yale woman for possession of drugs.
According to the department, 56-year-old Marcia Kay Lowe faces charges of a Class D Felony for her third or subsequent offense for possession of a controlled substance, and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from a traffic stop on December 8th.
Police Chief Mark Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio, an officer responded to a call of Lowe allegedly going through items in a dumpster outside of a business in the 200 block of North Vine Street in Jefferson. Lowe told the officer she had mistakenly thrown items into the dumpster and that a friend had driven her to the location and was going to pick her up. The officer then found Lowe driving a vehicle and performed the traffic stop.
During the stop, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Clouse says a probable cause search was conducted and the officer found several baggies of a green leafy substance and two smoking devices. The items were seized and sent to the Criminalistics Laboratory for testing. Test results were positive for marijuana. Lowe was additionally charged with driving with a suspended license.
Clouse says once an arrest warrant is issued and Lowe has been apprehended, she will be booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
