By this time next year, the McCreary Community Building in Perry could look considerably different, and that process will be starting soon.
Parks and Recreation Director John Anderson says contractors are wrapping up work on phase 1A of the rec center renovations, which included two new boilers already installed, and a new chiller that’s on the way. He says phase 1B will be much more visible for the public, with the primary aspect being the transition of the theater space into a 24-hour access workout room. Anderson points out that the theater conversion and gym ceiling are part of the base bid for the next phase, though there are also four bid alternates that contractors will present. “We’re really hoping that we can do the base bid with funding from the City, and then the bid alternates — like a family changing room, and giving the kitchen a fresh look; each room has its own special needs — so we’re really kind of hoping to drive some fundraising opportunities (and) get the McCreary Foundation involved. We’re really kind of revving up the engine so to speak to get all of phase one complete by hopefully the end of 2020.”
Anderson adds, the bid documents are ready to be let to contractors, with the bid period starting in January and the City Council awarding the project in February.
