Wrestling coaches like it when they’re athletes win, but winning by fall is even more pleasing. Greene County head coach Zach Beekman watched nine of his wrestlers compete on Saturday at the Tiger-Knight Invitational at Carroll High to end the December portion of the schedule. The coach saw his troops go 20-13 on the day and 14 of the wins were by fall, which translates to a 70% ratio. Two of the victories were by major decision and four were by regular decision.
Six of the seven Greene County place winners either wrestle to, or placed higher than they were seeded in the 11-team event. Brenner Gallagher (113) and Will Hansen (152) placed second, while Braden Gallagher (113), Brady Stauffer (138), and Nathan Black (145) were third. Chance McCollom (126) was fourth and Matt Naberhaus (285) placed fifth.
The Rams have this week off during the break from school. They don’t wrestle again until Jan. 7 in a quadrangular at Woodward-Granger.
