Greene County Adopt-A-Family volunteers helped make the holiday season a little brighter for those in need.
Close to 170 Greene County families received boxes of food to get them through Christmas this past weekend. Organizer Sherry Graven appreciated the community support that allows for this program to continue.
“It takes a lot of money to run a project like this, it’s approximately $16,000. We fund it all on donations. I send out request letters in October and I just pray that the money comes in, and we’re always lucky to be able to pay the bill once we get it. This year we were extra blessed to get the money from Grow Greene (County Gaming Corporation). That really helped, but we still needed more money and it’s still coming in, so that’s what we need.”
She added, some of the Greene County High School students helped package the meals, while her friends, family, church members and others from Greene County Adopt-A-Family also helped. The food baskets were distributed to the families at the Greene County Fairgrounds on Saturday.
