The Board of Control for the Iowa High School Athletic Association met last Thursday. Among the actions taken by the Board was the approval of a change to the 35-point rule for high school football games effective for the 2020 season. The rule had been that the clock would run continuously (except for certain circumstances) once the points margin grew to 35 or greater at halftime or later. Starting with the next football season, the continuous clock rule will take effect at any time in the game when the margin is 35 points or more.

Greene County head coach Caden Duncan told Raccoon Valley Radio he was OK with the change. He pointed out margins that great early in games has been unusual in recent seasons for the Rams, but there have been several cases across the state where margins are greater than 60 points in the past before intermission. Speeding up the game typically limits the amount of points scored.
