The Stuart Fire Department visited several homes this week, but it wasn’t to respond to an overcooked turkey.

On the contrary, the Stuart Fire Outreach Committee held their second annual holiday meal giveaway. Committee head Mike Kalbach says they took nominations from the community for who deserved a brightened holiday by receiving a free delivered meal which included a 12 pound turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, gravy, pumpkin pie, and a few cooking utensils. Stuart Fire members delivered the meals on December 15th, and Kalbach shares what he enjoyed from the experience, “When you see their faces, it’s nice to see that they appreciate it. That’s not a requirement that they do that, you know? It just feels good to know that you’re helping somebody out, not necessarily in an emergency situation, you’re just helping them out one human being to the next. So it always feels good to give stuff to people and to help them up and make sure that they have one less burden on their plate.”

Kalbach thanks Hometown Foods in Stuart for helping provide the meals. From holding open houses, to painting the soccer field restroom facilities, this is one of the ways the outreach committee seeks to connect with the Stuart community.
