The U.S. House voted this week to impeach President Donald Trump, and Iowa Congresswoman Cindy Axne (D) comments on her support to charge the President with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
The representative for the state’s third district says when she took the oath of office she swore to protect the Constitution and the nation’s democracy. Axne says that after carefully reviewing the evidence presented from the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees, it’s clear that the President abused his power by using $400 million in taxpayer money for his own personal, political gain, “He did withhold military aid funding for the Ukraine who by the way of course is trying to defend themselves from Russia, a country that this president has formed relationships with but did withhold that military aid that Congress authorized so that is not something that he can do that’s another violation and abuse of his powers to usurp Congress – that’s the House and the Senate – , and our decision to provide military aid for that country to protect our national security and security around this world.”
Axne adds President Trump also obstructed Congress by ordering his administration to refuse to testify or provide subpoenaed documents during the House proceedings. Trump is now the third President in U.S. history to be impeached by the House for high crimes and misdemeanors. Impeachment proceedings now move to the Senate, where a trial is expected in January.
