Greene County hosted three other teams in high school wrestling on Thursday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams were 3-0 on the night to improve to 10-3 in dual meets. The Rams topped the Nevada Cubs 57-18 to start the night, then followed that with a 57-9 victory over Saydel’s (Des Moines) Eagles, and the night for the Rams finished with a 72-12 win over Coon Rapids-Bayard. The wins over Nevada and Saydel were Heart of Iowa Activities Conference victories, while the CR-B match was non-conference. Nevada went 2-1 on the night with Saydel 1-2 and CR-B 0-3.
Forfeits were the order of the day with far more weight classes forfeited than matches wrestled. Greene County wen 12-5 in the matches actually wrestled. Going 3-0 for Greene County last night were sophomore Brenner Gallagher (113), freshman McCade Owens (132), junior Brady Stauffer (138), sophomore Nathan Black (145), senior Will Hansen (152), junior Cam Miller (160), freshman Gunnar Goble (170), and junior Sawyer Schiltz (220).
The Rams were without freshman McKinley Robbins (106) due to illness. Robbins is ranked second or third in Class 2A, depending on the poll.
Greene County finishes the December portion of the schedule tomorrow at Carroll High for the Tiger-Knight Invitational.
