The Dallas County Sheriff’s Benevolent Association distributed food Thursday to 75 low income families around the County.

Their annual food basket program is provided by several different businesses and organizations, and this year the primary donor was Osmundson Manufacturing and owner Heather Bruce. Much of the food for the baskets was supplied by the Perry Hy-Vee, which delivered everything to the Dallas County Fairgrounds Wednesday morning. Volunteers then spent the day putting the baskets together, and several local law enforcement entities helped with the distribution throughout the day Thursday.

Deliveries were made by Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputies, Dallas County Emergency Medical Services, the fire departments from Adel, Perry, and Waukee, and police departments from Adel, Granger, Van Meter, and Woodward. The baskets contained meat, canned food, bread, milk, eggs, potatoes, gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses, sweets, toys, and various other foods and sundries. Applications to the program open each October and close when they reach the allotted number of families. The Benevolent Association thanked the officers, volunteers, and donors for their generosity to make it another successful year.
