A Perry holiday tradition is returning tomorrow, and the entire community is invited to take in the cultural experience of Las Posadas.

Hispanics United for Perry (HUP) is once again organizing and sponsoring the festivities, which will start with a 6 p.m. ecumenical service at First Christian Church. Attendees will then hit the streets to sing and recreate the journey of Mary and Joseph as they searched for lodgings. After three unsuccessful stops, the procession will be welcomed into First United Methodist Church, where there will be a free-will donation meal, crafts, dancers, and music.

HUP Representative Mary Murphy says “Las Posadas” literally translates to “The Inns,” and is an important observation throughout Latin America. She points out that it’s an accessible celebration regardless of your cultural background, and is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. “We make everybody welcome! I know that it’s been on my tradition list since I started in Perry nine years ago. And it’s nice because we go back and forth between English and Spanish for the whole service, (and) English and Spanish for all the songs.”

All proceeds from Las Posadas will benefit the HUP scholarship fund. To learn more, listen to today’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program on air and at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
