A new faculty member will be joining the Perry School District at the start of the new year, and the administration is excited to welcome new High School Instrumental Music Director Rachel Poss.
Poss takes over for the Brad Sparks, who headed the high school band for two and a half years and is leaving to teach at a university in California. Superintendent Clark Wicks says he’s sad to see Sparks leave, but he’s excited for what Poss can offer the music department moving forward. “She comes with three years of experience at Lincoln High School in Des Moines (and) she was going to grad school. So she’s going to bring, I think, a lot of positive energy, a lot of experience, and I think it’ll be a great transition for us.”
Poss will officially take over following winter break on January 2nd. She’ll hit the ground running thanks to the biggest instrumental event of Perry’s year: the annual Perry Band Olympics in February. However, Wicks says former band instructor Steve Cook will be helping with the festival to make sure it runs smoothly.
