Weather has certainly dictated work on the new high school and career academy project for the Greene County School District, and recent warmer and dryer weather has caused the project to steadily move forward.

Most of the four buildings have the exterior precast concrete walls in place. The remaining walls include two for the auditorium, which are expected to be erected by the end of the month, and the final walls will be installed in early January for the band and vocal classrooms on the south side of the auditorium.

Work on the career academy continues, with electrical and plumbing being roughed in and duct work being hung. The roof is nearly complete on the academic wing and crews are starting work on the roof of the gymnasium. In the next two to three weeks, the last of the footings will be prepared for the band and vocal classrooms. The career academy is slated to have metal stud walls and sheetrock installed in January.

The career academy and new high school are anticipated to open by the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
