Greene County lost its fourth straight boys’ high school basketball game and dropped to 0-4 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play and 1-5 overall after PCM (Monroe) rolled to a 70-40 victory on Tuesday night. The action was in the middle school gym in Jefferson and was heard on KG98 and streamed on wwwraccoonvalleyradio.com.
The Mustangs improved to 3-1 in the conference and 4-2 overall with the easy victory after leading 12-0 early, 22-5 after one quarter and 35-12 at intermission. The Mustangs dominated inside with Derek Brown scoring 28 points and Durant Van Dyke adding 22. They two normally combined for 22 points per game, but they more than doubled that total against the Rams. PCM made 27 of 42 shots from the field, including two of seven three-point shots. They made 13 of 19 foul shots. The Mustangs had 14 turnovers.
The Rams went three of four from the charity stripe, 16 of 49 overall and four of 25 on three-pointers. Greene County turned the ball over 18 times. Nine players scored for the Rams, but no one reached double figures. Cael Fisher had eight points and Bryce Stalder added seven. Leading scorer Carter Morton was held to just six points, 11 below his average entering the contest.
