A second fatal vehicle wreck occurred within a week in Adair County.

According to Iowa State Patrol, at about 6:30 p.m. Monday a motorist called law enforcement for a vehicle in the south ditch of eastbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 91. Investigation of the scene shows 59-year-old Gregg Schochenmaier of Norwalk was driving a Ford F150 when for unknown reasons Schochenmaier drove off the road and struck a tree in the ditch.

Schochenmaier was wearing a seatbelt during the incident, and he was transported by Johnson Funeral Home. Guthrie County Medical Examiner, Adair County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources also assisted. The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
