Saturday was busy for Greene County’s wrestlers. Freshman Emma Hoyle made history by competing in a girls’ only wrestling tournament at Des Moines East, the first time a Greene County girl went to an all-girls event. The rest of the team won Pool B at the Ogden Dual Meet Tournament and finished in second place overall, dropping the title match to Humboldt 51-27.

Head coach Zach Beekman was asked to comment about Hoyle, who placed second in her 145 lbs. bracket at DM East, pinning a girl from Ankeny Centennial, then losing 11-9 to a West Des Moines Valley female. “This was her first taste of competition outside of the practice room. Emma has been wanting to compete and I would say for the first outing it went well.” The coach added the next scheduled competition for Hoyle is Jan. 4 at Colfax-Mingo.

The Rams went 4-1 at the Ogden duals and Coach Beekman said, “It was a great weekend overall. As a team, we continue to see what we are capable of when each wrestler is focused, determined, and our leaders take control.”

The Rams host a quadrangular in the middle school gym in Jefferson on Thursday, Dec. 19.
