Winter temperatures are here, and Guthrie County residents are reminded they can apply for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program, otherwise known as LIHEAP.

New Opportunities Guthrie County Family Development Center Coordinator Rhonda Huggins says the average amount that local residents receive is $400, and recipients also get added to LIHEAP’s weatherization list, which provides help for furnace, pipe, and other home winter-related emergencies. The deadline to apply is April 1st. For those who’d like help signing up for the program, Huggins will be at the Stuart Public Library on Tuesday, December 17th for appointments. To schedule with Huggins, reach her at 641-747-3845 or rhuggins@newopp.org.
