
Several Greene County area kids competed in the annual Jefferson Elks Hoop Shoot contest.
The event took place this past Saturday at the Greene County Middle School gym in Jefferson. The individuals that received first place for their respective age and gender divisions and will advance onto the Northwest Iowa District contest include: Shylo Reynoza for the 8-9-year-old girls, Kading Winters for the 8-9-year-old boys, Alivya Smith for the 10-11-year-old girls, Jaron Jacobs for the 10-11-year-old boys, Emma Shipley for the 12-13-year-old girls and Isaac Carman for the 12-13-year-old boys.
The winners will get to compete on January 18th at St. Mary’s School in Storm Lake. The winners of that contest will then move onto the state competition in February. If the winners cannot compete at the district contest, the second place finisher from the local Hoop Shoot will take their place. See the list below for the 1st and 2nd place recipients.
First and Second Place:
8-9 year old girls: 1st place-Shylo Reynoza; 2nd place-Alaina Gettler
8-9 year old boys: 1st place-Kading Winters; 2nd place-Gabriel Geremza
10-11 year old girls: 1st place-Alivya A Smith; 2nd-Natalie Towers
10-11 year old boys: 1st place-Jaron Jacobs; 2nd-Kole Johnson-Peterson
12-13 year old girls: 1st place-Emma Shipley; 2nd-place-Ella Shipley
12-13 year old boys: 1st place-Isaac Carman; 2nd place-Kyle Charlson
