The first week of the Greene County High School wrestling season is in the books. A 2-1 dual meet record and the first invitational tournament saw the Rams win over PCM (Monroe) and Ogden with a loss to Van Meter/Earlham, and a tie for ninth place in the 14 team Dallas Center-Grimes Tournament. This Thursday the Rams open the home season with a double-dual meet involving the Gilbert Tigers and ADM Tigers. The Ogden dual meet tournament is Saturday.
None of the Rams went undefeated in week one, but a number of the losses were to highly ranked wrestlers. One example is senior Will Hansen’s two losses at DC-G on Saturday. He lost to the number two and number eighth ranked Class 3A wrestlers at 152 lbs. Hansen finished fourth place. Freshman McKinley Robbins at 106 lbs. began his first week of high school wrestling with just one loss, and that was a 7-4 decision to 2A’s number one ranked individual. Robbins pinned all his other opponents last week.
Only eight Rams went to DC-G with others taking part in the Winterset JV tournament. With seven dual meets on the schedule between Thursday and Saturday, it’s possible a large number could see varsity action.
