Most people likely don’t enjoy when snow starts falling in the winter, but Dallas County Conservation is an exception.

That’s because when the snow starts to fall, they will offer free cross country skiing to the public. Conservation Outreach Coordinator Ken Keffer says the activity will be offered on weekends and school holidays throughout the winter, but points out there are specific conditions to allow it to happen. “At the Vaos Nature Center, you know, if it snows we’re excited. We’re going to get out there and we’re going to ski. And so we do have some skis available for rent for $3, but we need about four-inches of snow. So some years we get there, some years we don’t. But if you want to sign up on our list, we’ll just give you kind of an email blast or a phone call, just like, ‘Hey! Skiing’s on this weekend!’ (It’s) sort of a pop-up event, so yeah bring on the snow!”
