A Perry-based attorney was recently elected to fill a seat on a state board.

Mark Spellman of the Spellman Law Firm was announced at the annual convention for the Iowa Association for Justice (IAJ) as one of the new members of their Board of Governors. Balloting took place during the run-up to the convention, held November 7th and 8th in Des Moines, and Spellman was installed as a new officer at that time. He will represent the Judicial Subdistrict 5A, which includes Dallas, Guthrie, Jasper, Madison, Marion, and Warren counties. His term lasts through 2020. The Board of Governors is selected by current IAJ members from amongst themselves.

The IAJ was established in 1973 and today includes nearly 1,000 attorneys from all corners of Iowa. The organization works to strengthen the state’s civil and criminal justice systems, and members include attorneys focused on personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, family law, and employment law. Additionally, the IAJ has a benevolent aspect, and at the recent convention is was announced they had collected more than $2,500-worth of professional attire and cash donations for their “Dress for Success” program.
