Now that Thanksgiving is over, many of us may have gained a few extra pounds during the holiday. With that in mind, there are some simple at-home exercises to help burn some of those extra calories.
Jefferson Parks and Recreation Wellness Director Simeon Lang says an easy and inexpensive way to get a workout is doing lower body exercises.
“So things like our bodyweight squat or some glute bridges can be easier on the knees. But three sets of 20 (repetitions) squats or 20 bridges just helps activate those muscles and maybe burn a few calories. But we can kind of use up some of that energy that we are consuming.”
Lang adds simple situps or crunches can also help strengthen core muscles. Finally, he encourages a short walk of about 10-15 minutes, depending on the weather, after a meal to help energize the body.
